Who Is Barbara de Michele?

Resident of Issaquah:
I have lived in Issaquah, mostly in the downtown area, for 40 years.

Education: 
I graduated from Washington State University with a B.A. in English Education; graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with an M.S. in English Education.  I started my career as a junior high and high school teacher.

Professional Experience:
1981 – 1985, Internal Communications Coordinator for the Spokane School District; 1985 – 1992, Director of Public Relations for the Issaquah School District; 1992 – 2010, Community Relations Planner for King County Department of Transportation (retired); 2010 – 2017, Executive Director, Issaquah Community Network and Issaquah Schools Foundation Healthy Youth Initiative (retired); 2018 to 2019, Business Manager for The Garage, A Teen Café, 2019 - present, elected to the Issaquah City Council, currently serving as Deputy Council President

Civic Experience:
AtWork! Board of Directors, 1990 – 1995; Elected to the Issaquah School Board 1995 – 2003, served twice as Board President;  Issaquah Arts Commissioner for 12 years;  Together Center Board of Directors, 2009 to 2019; Founding member of Influence the Choice, 2010; founding member, the Garage, A Teen Cafe, 2018; member and current President of the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah.

2020: Alliance of Eastside Agencies Elected Official of the Year.
2012: Recipient of the city’s Issaquah Hall of Fame award. 2012: Recipient of the Issaquah Schools Foundation Golden Apple Award (for contributions to public education).

Family:
My son and daughter-in-law, John de Michele and Dianne Nagasaka, live in Covington. I have two beautiful grandchildren. John graduated from Issaquah High School in 1990.
